The School and Environment |
|
Catcott School is situated in one of the old and picturesque villages of the Polden Hills with views across the Somerset Levels towards the Mendips. It has a long history, with the original building, which just served Catcott village children, dating from 1842. As the population of surrounding village schools decreased, Catcott was designated as an Area School incorporating the children from the villages of Edington, Chilton Polden, Sutton Mallet, Stawell and Burtle. A new school block was added in the 1970s and more recently, a new reception classroom was built and further interior alterations made. Catcott School is an essential part of all these village communities and its popularity extends beyond its catchment boundaries. |

The school has seven 'year group' classrooms with years 5 and 6 in the old part of the school, years 3 and 4 in Elliot classrooms and the rest of the school in the main building. The hall is a focus for the school meeting together for assemblies, lunches and providing excellent indoor facilities for PE. Next to the hall, there is a library which is well-stocked with both fiction and non fiction books and where the children are taught library skills. Located in the main building is our computer suite which comprises of 17 computers and projector, which the school shares with the local community. There are projectors and interactive whiteboards in all classrooms. There is also a music room which is used for individual lessons taught by peripatetic teachers and which has a wide range of instruments for general use. |

There are 3 play areas outside where the children can be energetic and creative in their play and the large expanse of field is wonderful for PE and summer playtimes. The children help to plan and care for their school environment for instance through planting flowers and designing playground markings. The school has created an environmental area and everyone is looking forward to the opportunities this is will have for the children. |
